Good morning / Goodnight
How do we visualize a day? This question gets more complicated when you consider personal relationships spanning different time zones. Our phones are tools to connect us; messages occur simultaneously, and are received by two people in the same instance. However, for those who are separated by large geographic distances, that instance is relative. For one person it may be the morning, yet for the other it may be night. Messages appear to be sent from the past or the future.
Heatmap depicting the time and number of text messages sent between two people over the course of one week. Each cell represents one minute. Darker values indicate a higher number of text messages sent per minute.
Good morning / Goodnight is a data visualization project that tries to understand patterns in communication between time zones. Using text messages as connections between different timelines, trends begin to emerge.
Alternative depictions of dataset, highlighting unique trends in the data, as well as different ways to visualize personal relationships across time zones.
